The dulling process of a razor is caused from corrosion as shown in these Scanning Electron Microscope images of four shaving razors used during a two week experiment.
At the end of the two week experiment, the razor protected with EverAfterShave (Sample II) exhibits a sharp, well defined cutting edge as expected with a clean cutting razor. The unprotected razor (Sample I) and the razor rinsed with water once per day (Sample III) have edges you would expect on a poorly cutting dull razor. Sample IV was an unexpected observation, showing an unknown substance present on the cutting edge. We suspect this substance may protect the razor from corrosion until its first use.
